Clinching uses cold forming to assemble two or more layers of metal sheets. By means of clinching joining technology, steel, and stainless steel materials, as well as aluminum and other non-ferrous materials, are joined together without welding or fasteners. Clinching is mainly used for joining steel sheets for white goods, heating and ventilating and automotive part manufacture. There, it replaces techniques such as resistance spot welding as well as the use of other mechanical fasteners, such as riveting.
